Belle Haven, Va

Inland from the Chesapeake Bay along the Potomac River, you’ll find historic Belle Haven. Belle Haven has a population of around 6,000 residents and is part of the Washington metropolitan area. Belle Haven offers a mixed urban/suburban feel and is great for retirees. Belle Haven’s name comes from Scottish pioneers that once settled in Virginia along the Potomac in the early 18th century. This settlement’s name came from the countrymen, Earl of Belhaven. This settlement soon thrived as a port for many goods that would later become known as Alexandria.

A short drive south of Old Town Alexandria, Belle Haven is a suburban escape for many coming from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Belle Haven thrives on social lives and isn’t a community known for keeping to itself. If there is a reason to celebrate, the residents pull together to celebrate. The citizens association throws together several events such as annual dinners, Fourth of July fireworks, and an Easter Egg Roll. Everyone is very welcoming in this community and new residents are greeted with a cookbook full of tasty recipes passed on from other residents, a bottle of wine, and a smile!
