The Benefits Of
Masonry Chimneys
Long-Lasting
One of the main reasons why so many homeowners have been using masonry chimneys in the household is that they last centuries! Brick has an average lifespan of 50 years when properly maintained and natural stone can last up to 100 years!
Unlike metal prefab chimneys, there is less room for repair or failure, keeping repair costs of masonry chimneys at a fraction of the price of metal chimneys that can rust or bend, or dent with weathering.
Easy Maintenance
Just because masonry is attractive doesn’t mean that it has to be hard to maintain. When preventative measures are taken during installation, masonry is simple to maintain.
Brick and stone can be sealed, making stains from ash and soot wipe right off the surface with minimal effort. They are also very strong so chipping and gouging are only found in extreme cases of abuse. Masonry can keep its like-new appearance for decades with minimal cleaning.
Customization
Who said that creating a new chimney had to be a cookie-cutter process? The creation of a custom chimney can be as exciting as installing a new flooring system in your home.
We offer plenty of different materials to craft chimneys including bricks, natural stone and stone blocks, giving you the creative freedom to create your chimney in your vision. Talk to our team today to see what we can offer for your home.

Home Value
A new chimney is just like any other home renovation, they are an investment that can bring in serious rewards when it comes time to sell your home.
According to the National Association Of Real Estate Appraisers, a new chimney can increase the resale value of your home upwards of 6-12 percent, with additional value added when a new fireplace is implemented as well.
Heat Distribution
With winter being a constant dread here in Virginia, it is crucial to find ways to improve upon your home’s heating capabilities. Well with a masonry chimney, you will find that your home will stay warmer when in use!
This is because the stone will absorb the heat and hold it more efficiently than a prefab metal chimney and disperse the heat into the surrounding rooms.
Fire Pits
Here at Concrete Contractors Virginia, we offer the ability to craft your fire pit in your backyard if an outdoor fireplace is just too large.
With materials like paver, brick, and flagstone, a firepit can extend the backyard, creating an area that you can socialize and entertain in. A firepit can also solve the winter blues as it can be used year-round to supply warmth no matter the temperature.

The Process Of The Pros
How We Build Your Chimney
Planning
We will work with you to find the perfect width, size and identify combustible materials that will need to be moved or avoided.
Choose The Material
The exterior of the chimney can be crafted using brick, natural stone, pavers, and stone block to name a few.
Smoke Box
First, we start right above the fireplace crafting the smokebox, the part of the chimney responsible for venting smoke into the chimney.
Flue Construction
The flue is what connects the smokebox to the roof and can be made of brick, stone or clay tiles.
Outside Of Chimney
During construction of the flue, we also begin work on the exterior of the chimney, working from the ground up.
Flashing
Flashing is used to create a watertight bond where the chimney meets the roof of your home.
Chimney Cap
Chimney caps are used to reduce the amount of moisture, keep animals out, block downdrafts and keep debris out of your chimney.
Cure
After installation, give the chimney at least 10 days to cure before lighting a fire so the mortar has time to dry.
