Franconia

Franconia Road once served as a rolling road to get tobacco hogshead to the Alexandria port. The community name derived from the “Frankhonia Farm” and has a population of over 18,000 residents. This community has existed since the 1870s when a station of the RF&P Railroad opened but came into its prime in the 1950s. This suburban area is surrounded by the Springfield Mall and the Franconia-Springfield Washington Metro Station. Franconia is located in southeastern Fairfax County is only 13-miles southwest of Washington D.C. The history of Franconia and the surrounding area is preserved in the Franconia Museum.

Franconia is near to many things to do such as the Springfield Town Center which is actually a mall complete with many different stores and places to eat for a day full of fun shopping. When looking for a bit of a nature scene visit the Huntley Meadows Park, which is named the #1 place to visit in the area. This park has many different trails where you can see all types of wildlife. Franconia is in close proximity to Alexandria where there is a rich history to learn about and many places to visit to learn something new.
